The Cafe HOT. GAME
ROLE
Game Designer, Programmer
DESCRIPTION
This game was developed as an internship opportunity with Champlain College and the Café HOT, a local Burlington café. It is a DOOM-style shooter that uses the iconography and layout of the Café HOT.
The game was proposed as a potential advertisement opportunity for the café, and was delivered as a prototype pending further development.
RAPID PROTOTYPING

Keeping the cafe updated was crucial to make sure that the final project could be iterated on to fit their desires. For example, we made sure to avoid the presence of firearms that might be bad for branding by replacing it with a thematically appropriate bottle of hot sauce.
During development, my co-designer and I made sure to keep our clients at the café in the loop about our progress, so that we could get their input and make sure their vision of the project was being fulfilled.
These updates were given regularly, especially when major features such as advancements in enemy AI and the addition of level layout and power-ups.

DOCUMENTATION

I created multiple documents detailing the creative vision for this internship project, as decided by my co-designer and I along with input from the café's owners.
The VDD(see left) displays the very basic information for our concept that was presented to the café which gave both parties a mutual understanding of the creative direction.
Throught this project I:
-
Extensively documented systems, mechanics, and controls with clear visual formatting
-
Prioritized delivering on the core gameplay experience
-
Scoped the game around both our skillsets and the café's desires

IP AGREEMENT

As a part of working with our client, the café, I:
-
Drafted a comprehensive IP Agreement
-
Ensured there would be no misuse of client IP
-
Utilized available resources to learn to understand and write in legal language
